Mr. P and I FINALLY made a decision on tuxedo’s and suits! We’ve been trying to figure this out for years it seems, but really it’s only been a little over a month.
I really want Mr. P to wear a three-piece suit…I think he would look damn sexy in one (and he does by the way…he tried one on yesterday!). We stopped by Men’s Wearhouse a few weeks ago, and they don’t rent suits, but they did have a special going on at the time…buy one get one, so that would put our groomsmen back around $250 just for the suit! They only rent tuxedos, so if we wanted suits, we’d have to buy them. We scoured Macy’s, Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s, and everything online to find a reasonable price to ask the guys to spend on a suit. But we came up empty-handed.
Mr. P suggested we rent tuxedos…maybe I’m a snob, but I really don’t like rented tuxedos. They always seem to look too boxy and fit poorly, but if this was the most cost-effective way, then so be it. I was really disappointed because if the groomsmen wear tuxes, that means Mr. P won’t be wearing that three-piece suit I’ve imagined him in for the past year. *sigh*
So before we decided on tux rentals from Men’s Wearhouse, we hit up Formally Modern Tuxedo’s. I figured they just had tux rentals, but guess what…they rent suits too!! My dreams weren’t dashed after all!! The only problem…it’s a two piece suit and Mr. P and I were hoping for a three-piece suit for the guys. Oh well…we can live with it, especially since the rental cost is $150. Tha’s $100 less than buying a suit which is great! So we picked out this suit…
It’s a Joseph Abboud black suit with a tailored fit, side vents, and flat front trousers. The material is Super 120′s Laura Piana Wool, and is a lighter weight than what you would typically see with suit rentals. They looked so sharp in the store…I can’t wait to see the groomsmen in them!
And Mr. P tried on this suit…
It’s a black John Varvatos three-piece suit. It’s a trim fit, has side vents and flat front trousers. It’s made of Super 110′s Wool so it’s a lighter fabric too. And let me tell you, it looked GREAT on him! They only had one left in his size, so they’re holding it for us until Friday because he still wants to try on this suit…he claims it’s his favorite.
I like to indulge Mr. P, so I said go for it…as long as he makes a decision this week. It’s a Hugo Boss three-piece suit with a “modern fit.” By “modern” I think they mean more of a slim fit, but I’m not sure. I’m a huge fan of Hugo Boss suits, (um, The Hangover anyone?) and there isn’t much of a price difference, so Mr. P is going to try it on this week. We have to make the final decision by Friday or else we’ll lose the John Varvatos suit, and I don’t want to take that chance!
A little bit of stress as been lifted since we finally picked out the suit. Now we need to get everyone’s measurements in by next week so we can place the order. We definitely waited until the last-minute with this one!!
So what did you decide on…suits or tuxedos?

You should just tell people that the guy in those pictures is Mr.P!
I like the Joseph Abboud one, he makes great suits. The one Mr. P likes is also totally amazing. Glad you got a great deal!

Ha!! It is…can’t you tell your own brother J? I’ll post another blog about the suit we actually chose…it’s not the one pictured, but I was a little jealous of what name he’ll be wearing!
